Hours: full-time (40 hours per week, 5.6 weeks holiday + Christmas)

Contract: SLT Admin contract

Salary range: Commensurate with experience

Overall purpose:

Responsible for the wellbeing and learning support for all students within the school, and the overall administration and oversight of the school's pastoral provision. The successful candidate will also hold the position of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

Summary of main responsibilities:

  • Designated safeguarding lead, ensuring that online safety is given due priority
  • Sit on the Senior Leadership Team and provide high-level, strategic thinking 
  • Lead a team, with the assistance of a Deputy, of 2 Learning Support & Wellbeing Specialists, Nurse, Weblibrarian, Pastoral Team Leader, Student Supervisors, 8 Heads of Year
  • Management of referrals and concerns for cognitive and social-emotional barriers to learning
  • Oversee referrals and provision for individual and group sessions through the Special needs register
  • Ensure Individual Personal Plans (PAPs) and PAIs show monitoring and progression with the families support
  • Liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders as necessary including parents, teachers, colleagues, multidisciplinary teams, external professionals continuing/ future education establishments to best support students
  • Oversee the Assemblies and events related to the department
  • Discover and implement necessary tools and resources to best support our students and share these ideas with parents and staff to support current learning and social and emotional needs and issues pertinent to the school population
  • Develop the PSHE curriculum in conjunction with teachers and pastoral staff: school nurse, careers services, teachers, etc.
  • Facilitate, support and monitor progress of vulnerable students during weekly sessions to develop social and communicative skills
  • Provide regular support for students in private fostering
  • Provide training and ongoing support for student peer counsellors and friendship buddies across the school
  • Provide coffee mornings to support parents and develop strong community networks
  • Work with the school’s commitment to the Common Sense media programme which helps schools, parents and children to prepare emotionally, socially and responsibly for digital wellbeing
  • Professional Development to ensure understanding of safeguarding, learning difficulties and current developments in learning support and mental health support

What we are looking for:

  • English native level speaker, ideally with some French.
  • Strong and demonstrated leadership experience and strategic mindset.
  • Postgraduate training or Masters level in Counselling or Psychotherapy.
  • Membership of a recognised psychology related professional body: BACP, UKCP or BCP.
  • Commitment to external professional supervision.
  • Experience in a school setting counselling students aged 3-18 with understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of children and young people.
  • A proven commitment to confidentiality and the safeguarding and welfare of children.
  • Experience with differentiating instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding collaborative skills and a desire to work in a team-focused environment.
  • Commitment to and facility with integration of technology in the service of student learning.
  • Willingness to contribute to school life and activities in additional ways through coaching, advising and special projects.
  • Ability to support and nurture the school-home partnership.
